Appalachia Service Project
When: 03/19/2020 - 03/22/2020
12:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Johnson City, Tennessee
BOMA Greater Charlotte and IREM Western NC will be partnering for a volunteer opportunity with Appalachia Service Project
March 19 - 22, 2020 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Appalachia Service Project is an organization whose mission is to make homes in Appalachia warmer, safer and drier for needy families. They are a faith based organization, but we are not obligated to join any of their programming besides what is related to our building projects, and they can tailor their messaging to us based on our desires to be more cultural in nature. Projects are completed by teams of 5-7 and can include installing drywall, building exterior steps, laying tile, repair floors, painting and more. To read more about ASP, please follow this link.
Volunteers will need to arrive on Thursday evening, 3/19, work Friday-Saturday, 3/20-21, and depart on Sunday, 3/22. The estimated costs for the construction materials that we will be using are $40 per person, which must be paid in advance & are non-refundable. Instead of utilizing the lodging through ASP, we feel a better fit for our organizations will be to reserve lodging in a specific hotel in Johnson City that will keep us in a central location. Approximate costs at hotels we are evaluating should be less than $60 per person per night if in a double occupancy room - hotel costs are the responsibility of the occupant. We will brown-bag lunches and dinners will be on our own (but likely enjoyed as a group!)
We have a total of 20 openings for this volunteer event, 10 from BOMA and 10 from IREM, so if you are interested and ready to commit, please sign up today!
