It goes without saying that this year brought about immense change for all of us. The first half of 2020 was certainly unexpected, and I know at least for me, I initially thought things would be different by now. We all hoped that the duration and severity of the pandemic's impact would be far less substantial than what we have experienced so far. Many of us may be finding ourselves in a pandemic slump. So, what do we do with this second half of the year?

On a personal and professional level, my new mantra is "Keep the momentum alive". Just because things have changed in unimaginable ways does not mean growth is no longer an option. And the same goes for BOMA Greater Charlotte! The second half of this year means development and embracing change. So until that wonderful day when we're back at Byron's with 125 of us having lunch together, one thing you'll notice is an increased online presence. In addition to our webinars, we're now connecting online with:
  • Catch Up Over Coffee our kick-off yesterday was successful, and now every other week, Principal Members will have an opportunity to join a Zoom meeting to discuss pressing issues, concerns, share information and get feedback from their peers.
  • Happy Hour we're scheduling monthly virtual Happy Hours, with the first coming up on Thursday, August 13th at 5:00pm, complete with breakout rooms for games and prizes!
  • Education if you're working on your RPA or FMA, we're offering Environmental Health and Science this fall in a live, online format.
  • Social Media read the communications you receive from BOMA...they always contain info you need. But also, be sure to follow BOMA Greater Charlotte on Facebook (@BOMA Greater Charlotte), Instagram (@bomacharlotte), and Linked In (BOMA Greater Charlotte). "Feature Fridays" highlighting our annual sponsors, announcements, job postings, community outreach and more can be found on these sites, and it's a good way to stay connected with your fellow BOMA members!
And last but not least, our bylaws require an Annual Membership Meeting in which we vote on the budget and present our new board for the upcoming calendar year, as well as present our annual awards. I am sure you've seen the Save the Date for this September 24th (time TBA, likely mid-afternoon). The meeting will be virtual, but we will make sure it is engaging and exciting! Principal Members a quorum is required for this meeting, so please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me (elizabeth.fulk@fox.com) or to BOMA Greater Charlotte .

Stay healthy and safe and hope to see you online and/or in person soon!
Elizabeth

BOMA Greater Charlotte is here for all of your BOMI Education Needs!

2020 sure has been a challenging year, but we are working hard to provide you formal education so that you can continue to pursue your designations!  Currently, we are looking to provide BOMI Environmental Health & Safety Issues as a LIVE Virtual Class in the Fall.  This class is a requirement for the FMA, RPA and SMA designations.

Please contact our Education Chair, Heather Hopkins, if you are interested!

The future of the commercial real estate industry will be shaped by the next generation of property professionals--those who are just beginning their property management careers. If this sounds like you, I'd like to personally invite to you to apply for the J. Michael Coleman CMCP Scholarship.

This scholarship program supports those who are looking to grow in their careers by pursuing the Certified Manager of Commercial Properties (CMCP) certification. I highly encourage early-career professionals to apply before the September 1 third-quarter deadline. The scholarship was established in honor of Mike Coleman, BOMA Fellow, a champion for emerging professionals who retired from Allied Universal after more than 30 years in commercial real estate.

For more information about the J. Michael Coleman CMCP Scholarship and the application process, please visit the BOMA Foundation website. To those of you who are just starting your careers in the exciting world of commercial real estate, I wish you the best of luck in all of your current and future endeavors!

Kind regards,
Henry Chamberlain, APR, FASAE, CAE
President and Chief Operating Officer
BOMA International
