Background: After graduating from East Carolina University, I worked in the residential sector for 2.5 years and realized it was not the right fit. I moved to Charlotte shortly after and received my first job in Commercial Real Estate at a Class A office building in Uptown Charlotte. Hard to believe that was 5 years ago.
Best advice for emerging professionals: Carve out time to talk with seasoned professionals they really do have the best advice (and stories). Also, take the time to shadow your building engineers to understand the mechanical systems of the building in depth trust me, they love to talk about the intricacies of their buildings.
Favorite aspect of a career in property management: The people I am able to interact with daily this includes customers, vendors and other industry professionals. I also love the unforeseen challenges that pop up that we have to resolve. These situations grow your knowledge in the field and keep things interesting.
Most valuable skill needed for a career in property management: The ability to multi-task effectively is imperative and flexibility is key no two day are ever the same.
Favorite Mentor: I have learned the most about this industry from my first boss, Ashley Funderburk. Her expertise in this industry is expansive and she really took the time to mold me and help me understand the inner workings of this industry.
Fun Fact: I was able to complete a bucket list item last year when I visited the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
My building (NASCAR Plaza) has been home to a TV show shoot (Homeland) and several commercials. In 2015, I was asked to be an extra in one of the commercials shoots at the building and worked with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Chase Elliot!
Favorite Thing about Charlotte: This is a very social city with lots to do from outdoor activities (WWC, hiking, etc.) to new restaurants and breweries constantly opening.
