President's Update

At the end of January, I attended the BOMA International Winter Business Meeting - a first for me. As it was virtual and free, I figured this was the perfect opportunity! I'm so glad I did, as I was able to listen to a 90-minute panel on diversity and inclusion that was very impactful. During the discourse, I realized that despite our strong committee force, we are lacking one that focuses on broadening diversity at all levels of commercial real estate. So I'm excited to announce that BOMA Greater Charlotte has a new initiative - the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. The objective of this committee will be to promote the expansion of diverse talent in our industry and provide opportunities for professional growth of underrepresented groups. On a more personal note -

Over the past few years, I will admit to doing very little reading unless it was for a BOMI course towards my RPA and FMA. But I recently decided to dive into other literature and started with The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. I've always considered myself to be a positive-thinking person. In fact, my significant other has said on multiple occasions, "There you go with your white picket fence, sunshiny, jelly-bean sidewalk attitude again". But in light of some serious health challenges he recently faced, I thought The Happiness Advantage may help me keep my rose-colored glasses on for us both. And I was right! With that being said, we all face challenges, especially as the fury of the pandemic continues. Nonetheless, as you can tell from this newsletter your Board of Directors and Committee Chairs are not letting that slow us down. So get involved, join me on that jelly bean sidewalk and let's make it a great year!

We are making maintenance and engineering a priority, and are thrilled to announce a new Engineering Committee that was recently formed with representation from Beacon, Cousins, JLL, Lincoln Harris, and Northwood Office. Contact us here if interested in joining this committee.
