I'm a potential new allied member, why is there a waitlist?

Thank you for your interest in membership, the best thing to do is to read up on our BOMA association and benefits of membership and see if it's right for your company.  If you decide to join the waitlist, you need to fill out an application as an allied applicant and you will be placed on the waitlist, which is about 2 years as we strive to keep a healthy ratio of 60% principal members and 40% allied members.  As a wait list applicant, you can attend up to 2 lunches per year if you register and pay the guest registration fee. 

I'm a new allied member, what do I need to know?

Welcome to BOMA Greater Charlotte.  Each federation is managed separately and have different bylaws, due structures and policies.  Contact your board member or BAE if you have questions. Here are some guidelines and information to review as a new allied member: 
  1. Annual dues are separate from sponsorships. Both are required for allied members to stay in good standing as members each year.
  2. Sponsorships are communicated as details are finalized. Allied members can choose to participate in the annual sponsorship program and/or in specific event sponsorship opportunities to satisfy the financial contribution requirement in the allied policy. 
  3. As an allied member, you are agreeing to the allied policy each year, which includes attendance to events and financial support of at least one event.
  4. Allied membership stays with the company, and can be transferred as needed. 
  5. Members should plan to attend lunches and events and be able to make sponsorship decisions. Membership does not include all company employees. There are some events that are member only and not open to other allied employees. 
  6. If an event is open to non members, ex. lunches, individuals will need to register and pay as a guest. 
  7. There are typically 2 events in the spring and 2 in the fall. In 2027, the Programs Committee will be modifying the schedule to accommodate hosting the Southern Region Conference (SRC).
  8. The Annual Sponsorship program opens each year in late fall, typically after the last event and runs from January 1 - December 31 each year.
  9. Monitor your email, attend lunches and events, read monthly newsletters to stay engaged and aware of events and sponsorship opportunities.

What do I receive as part of my membership dues?

You get two memberships for the price of one!  As a paying member of BOMA Greater Charlotte, a portion of your annual dues goes to BOMA International so you can enjoy the member benefits of both associations.  There is a complete list of member benefits, including member registration to lunches, free or reduced pricing to member only BOMA sponsored events, special member pricing for education, access to local and international educational and conference scholarships and the ability to join committees and take part of shaping our local association.  You also get access to the Buyers Guide and the Member directory and updates on Advocacy including local and federal updates on bills and legislation.  

I'm a new member, how do I access my account?

Once you have paid your dues, you will get an email notification to change your password. Use the email address and temporary password to log in.
If you know your username and password please click here to login. If you do not know your username and password you can retrieve that information by clicking here and entering the email address that was used to sign up for your account.

I am having trouble accessing my account with the username and temporary password provided.

You can retrieve your username and a temporary password several times and the system will send you additional emails with temporary passwords each time. Note that the most recent email you've received will contain the temporary password that will allow you to access your account. 

I paid for an event or sponsorship and I need a receipt, how do I get that?

Log on to your member portal and then "My Payments and Invoices", there, you will see the listing of all payments, click on the appropriate one and a PDF file of your invoice / receipt will be available for download. 

How do I update my Photo or Industry on my Member Profile?

To update your profile, log in to the member portal and click on "My Portal > My Profile" in the member portal menu. Review your information, click the edit button to make changes as necessary, and click on the "Save Changes" button to update your profile. 

Please note: All "required" fields must be filled out prior to updating your profile otherwise changes will not be saved.

How can I access a receipt or record of a paid invoice?

Log in to the member portal and click on "My Portal > My Invoices and Payments" in the member portal menu. Click on the Invoice #/Reference of the specific invoice you need.

Can I renew my membership online?

You can renew your membership by logging in to the member portal and click on "My Portal > My Membership" in the member portal menu. Otherwise, you will get a renewal notice leading up to the expiration of your dues cycle.  Member dues run January 1st - December 31st each year and must be renewed to stay a member.  If dues are not paid by December 31st, your account is suspended until dues are paid.  For allied members, there is an assessment of attendance, participation and sponsorship that will determine if you are eligible for renewal, see the Allied Member Renewal Policy for details.

How do I know about events?

Events are posted on our website as soon as they are open for registration. In addition, we encourage all members to attend the lunches and read the monthly newsletters to get notice of upcoming events, education opportunities and more. 
Go to the "Upcoming Events in the top navigation bar. This will take you to the Event Calendar. Click on the event for more details and to complete your registration. You can verify your registration in your Member Portal under "My Events".

I feel like I'm missing things and not getting newsletters or emails

Make sure you are checking the website often!  Events are posted on our website as soon as they are open for registration. In addition, make sure you are subscribed to our monthly newsletters to get notice of upcoming events, education opportunities and more. There is also a link under Resources where you can access previous month newsletters. 

How do I register for events?

Most events are for members only, which is the benefit of being a member. All events require advance registration, this is so the Programs Committee can plan for events, which often include food and drink and registration nametags.  
To register for events, log in to your member profile. Next, go to "Upcoming Events in the top navigation bar. This will take you to the Event Calendar. Click on the event for more details and to complete your registration. You can verify your registration in your Member Portal under "My Events". 

Why do I have to pay the credit card processing fees?

Due to a decision from the 2025 annual membership meeting, starting January 1, 2026, BOMA Greater Charlotte will apply credit card fees for all credit card transactions.This is due to the fact that we are a non profit and we keep our operational costs low.  To avoid credit card processing fees, you may pay by check in some cases.

Can I join a committee?

Yes!  We encourage all members to find a committee and be an active committee member!  We have a number of committees which are open to BOMA Greater Charlotte listed members. Visit the committee page for details and how to join. 

I'm new, how can I get involved?

We encourage all members to find a committee and be an active committee member!  Visit the committee page for details and how to join. We also encourage that you attend as many lunches and events as you can.  There are often new member events and events specific to your membership category, for example, there are Emerging Professional specific events, Allied Committee events and Engineering events.  Check the website often and access the newsletters for information. 

What is Advocacy?

BOMA works for commercial real estate at every level of government. BOMA International's advocacy team works in close coordination with BOMA's state and local associations to protect the interests of the industry and share the latest information from across the country. BOMA International's federal advocacy team provides Members of Congress with insight and expertise about issues that impact the commercial real estate industry. BOMA International's member-driven Industry Defense Fund advocates for the commercial real estate industry, ensuring funds are available for federal, state, and local advocacy efforts on issues affecting BOMA members. Education

I'm interested in getting my certifications, how do I do this?

As a BOMA Greater Charlotte member, you are able to take advantage of training in several ways.  There is self paced options, blended learning and in person local options.  There are always self paced and instructor led virtual sessions offered by BOMA International and by other BOMA locals, which you can enroll. We also offer local education if we can get enough participants locally to hold a class. Check out the Education page that is updated regularly with options, self paced, virtual or in person. I'm interested in getting education, including going to BOMA conferences, but my company's budget is limited

As a BOMA Greater Charlotte member, you are able to take advantage of local and BOMA International Scholarship opportunities. 

Conferences - There are several options with BOMA International, see current offered BOMA International scholarships. Locally, we offer a scholarship for one principal member to attend each conference. We review the applications received and select our lucky winner during the early bird registration window of each conference ----> Scholarship offered locally for BOMA International Conference and Expo.

Local education - We offer education scholarships for any locally offered class -----> Local Education Scholarship
